A crash closed the intersection of Central Drive (Highway 22) and Pee Dee Road in Southern Pines on Wednesday evening.

First responders were dispatched to the intersection around 6:15 p.m., and arrived to two vehicles with heavy damage. Moore County News arrived on the scene just before 6:30 p.m. and saw firefighters and paramedics loading one of the drivers onto a stretcher. According to Southern Pines Police, a Lexus tried to turn left onto Pee Dee Road from Central Road, into the path of a Mazda. The driver of the Mazda was transported to the hospital, and the two occupants of the Lexus were not injured.
