Moore County is facing extreme heat for Friday, and the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the area from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.

The high temperature for our area for the day is 100°, which means heat index values are expected to be near 109°.

These high temperatures mixed with humidity may cause heat related illnesses. Avoid being outside if possible, but if you have to be outdoors, drink plenty of fluids like water and Gatorade, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities, and take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.

Children and senior citizens are more likely to be affected by the heat. Please check on any elderly neighbors, family members and friends. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call 911 if you suspect someone could be suffering from heat stroke.
