A crash that was initially reported to be a three-vehicle collision, with one of the vehicles leaving the scene, turned out to be false.
Just before 11:45 a.m., first responders were dispatched to the crash at U.S. 15-501 and McCaskill Road. According to scanner communications and authorities at the scene, one of the drivers initially reported that a vehicle caused the crash, and then left the scene down Highway 15-501 towards Pinehurst. The parties involved in the crash were unable to give any kind of description of the vehicle that left the scene.
During the investigation of the crash, and questioning of the parties involved, it was determined that there was no third vehicle.
According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, two occupants of a Honda CRV was stopped at the stop light. A female driver of a Nissan Versa approached the stopped CRV and avoided a rear-end collision by veering off the shoulder of the road. After clipping Versa clipped the CRV, it continued on the shoulder of the road and side swiped a telephone pole, causing damage to the passenger side of the Versa and the airbags to deploy.

No one was injured in the crash, a small child in the back seat of the Versa was checked out by Moore County paramedics at the scene.
