With temperatures getting cold, firefighters want to remind people with fireplaces about safely using them. This after a house fire in the Seven Lakes West community on Friday around 7:30 p.m.

The homeowner told 911 that the chimney was on fire, and flames could be seen shooting out of the chimney when firefighters arrived on scene in the 300 block of Longleaf Drive.

The flames were able to spread quickly into part of the attic, but firefighters were able to keep it spreading to the entire attic.

Officials remind homeowners to properly clean their chimneys and to make sure they do not have obstructions inside of the chimney.

The fire remains under investigation.
