A 9-year-old child was injured in a rear-end collision on Highway 22 in High Falls on Thursday. Dispatchers sent first responders to the scene in front of High Falls Elementary School around noon.

Fire crews arrived to a Ford F-150 with moderate front end damage, and a Nissan Sentra with heavy rear-end damage.

N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, and tell Moore County News on scene that the Sentra was traveling north on Highway 22, and was about to turn left into the school. The driver of the F-150 slammed on brakes trying to avoid the collision, but was unable to stop in time.

Both drivers were uninjured, however the 9-year-old passenger in the Sentra was transported to the hospital as a precaution with what are believed to be minor injuries.

High Falls Fire & Rescue has the northbound lane of Highway 22 closed while the crash was investigated and cleared.
