UPDATE: According to NCSHP, the 17-year-old driver unfortunately passed away from his injuries on Monday, November 4. Moore County News is not releasing the name of the driver at the request of the family.

A 17-year-old male was airlifted by UNC Carolina Air Care after being involved in a fiery crash.

First responders were dispatched around 10:45 on Saturday morning to Jackson Springs Road near Hotel Street. The 911 caller told dispatchers the driver was still in the vehicle and it was on fire. The first arriving unit from West End Fire and Rescue reported the vehicle was fully involved.

Moore County News was told on scene that several other vehicles stopped to help, and were able to free the driver before the fire was able to spread to the cabin.

According to authorities, the driver was unconscious after the crash, and a landing zone was set up on Derby Road. His condition was unknown at the time of this article.

Jackson Springs Road was closed between Hotel Street and Richardson Lane while emergency crews were on the scene.

The N.C. State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. They say the driver was traveling towards Foxfire on Jackson Springs road at a high rate of speed. The young driver lost control of his Dodge RAM on a curve, almost colliding with another vehicle. He then over-corrected, spun out, went down an embankment and collided with a tree. The impact caused heavy damage to the passenger side of the RAM pick-up truck.

The driver of the vehicle that was almost hit saw the crash, turned around, and went to help the young driver. Another passerby also stopped to help free the driver of the RAM.
